How to get yourself prepared for negativity if you are a media personality or a media brand. Where does the hate come from?
The main idea, the popularity is filled up with a judging and disapproval. This is a fact and any public figure or brand who wants to get their popularity, has to accept it. This is not easy. I will give you my suggestions on how to deal with each of them.
First one. People who actually know the subject and show off their knowledge on a matter. These are a tough kind. They actually mention the real imperfections and mistakes.
How to deal with it? Do not argue, just mention that you appreciate their opinion and will take it under consideration.
Second one. Promotional hate. These are users that actually have nothing bad to say about you or your brand, have nothing against you personally, but they are using you as a promotional tool.
This category never says anything personal but leaves their negative opinion in very unspecific and cliche phrases. They normally doubt your style, location or lifestyle. But again, nothing personal. And these categories have nothing to do with actual hate. Just take it easy on them and simply ignore them.
Third. I call them “empty cannons” or trolls. These are the least pleasant individuals out there since they will do and say anything to get attention and simply waste everybody’s time.
The only way to deal with it is either to delete their comments or ignore them.
Fourth. Actual hate. Users experiencing the real distaste in you. We are all still humans and there can be individuals that just do not feel you or are simply jealous. These individuals feel a need to aware you and others how they feel about you. Here is nothing you can do about it; you will never have enough time and effort to change their mind.
